Warrior II illustration

How to do it

Step your feet wide: point the front toes toward the top of the mat, and turn the back foot out about 90 degrees so its outer edge lines up with the back of the mat. Inhale to reach both arms out at shoulder height, then exhale to bend the front knee over the ankle and sink in. Press evenly through both soles and keep breathing evenly as you hold.

What it should feel like

The front thigh and back leg working together, with the chest opening to the side.

Common mistakes

The front knee caving inward, or the back foot staying turned toward the front so the hips swing forward. Track the knee toward your second toe, and press the whole outer edge of the back foot down as you open it to the side.
